Aviation Themed wedding at Curzon Hall Sydney

Curzon Hall, one of the most prestigious Navarra Venus in Sydney. Upon arrival, I found myself admiring the grand, 19th century Federation Free Classical style mansion set within its large grounds. Walking into the building, I have discovered many different rooms, each unique in shapes and capacity; with the high ceiling and vintage decor, I could almost see the aristocrats sipping away the bubblies while the others ballroom danced.

It was my very first time working at this stunning venue, I did my usual walk around and familiarised myself with the reception area, introduced myself to the key personnel and finally did my mic test. The staff were very professional and charismatic, I especially enjoyed their senior event coordinator, an Italian gentleman named Ross and his way of ensuring that I knew my schedule.

The Dir Phillips Reception on this day was decorated in soft pink and gold, complimenting colours to the gold chandeliers hanging from the high ceiling and the white table cloths. Then something else on the table caught my attention, there were table numbers tucked in front of a larger pink card stating destination and flight number, also, the name cards for each guest was printed on a boarding pass!

The back story of why an aviation theme will need to start with this couple. Burke and Bevin met during the time when Burke, an ambitious pilot was working as a flight instructor at Flight Experience. Bevin on the other hand was a cabin crew for Cathay. On a particular day, the stars aligned, Bevin was overnighting in Sydney and decided to kill time in the flight sim and Burke so happened to be on duty that day… Burke had never met anyone so beautiful and the attraction was instant. In front of Bevin, he just kept talking, and talking and talking until he knew that he had to do something to see Bevin again. So he offered to take her on a ‘flight’ in the sim after work… And so when the clock stroke 7pm, Bevin showed up to that sim session...

Since then, Burke had not only managed to successfully make Bevin his partner for life, he had also been accepted into Cathay Pacific as an A350 pilot. Hooray!!!

When I was in the aviation industry (in my past life), I have realised that pilots are quite the romantics! Despite the rigidity of operations they must adhere to for the safety of other people, they can also be very creative. For example, some of them take amazing photos, I guess when they have an ‘office’ view that spectacular, it would be a shame to not polish up on that photography skillz.

I wanted to give Burke and Bevin the fully personalised experience, so I went in and made announcements in the graceful cabin manager voice, once in English, once in Chinese. They had a fabulous time, and many of their guests were convinced that I was a real cabin manager. #win

My best wishes goes to this lovely newlyweds and hope that they continue to aviate, navigate and communicate in this new chapter of their lives together. Their flight of love had successfully taken off, but the ground is where home is.
